Hanging Curtains

For headings:

Please read the following top tips to help you achieve the perfect hanging of your curtains:

Pencil Pleat Headings:

From the curtain or valance, tie the three draw cords together in a tight knot. For curtains, this is where the two curtains meet often referred to as the ‘leading edge’.

Next, pull the three cords at the same time to gather the curtain this is found at the opposite side. Continue gathering until you have reached your desired width length in the pleats.

Tie the cords but do not cut off the excess so that you are able to clean them appropriately when necessary. You can hide the free cords by tucking them under the heading tape.

You are now ready to choose which row of hook pockets to use. If you want to mask your rail then we recommend you use the row on the bottom. To show your pole or rails then apply the top row.

Subsequently, add a hook at each end of the tape and then roughly 10cm apart across the width of the curtain.

Tab Top and Eyelet Headings

Feed each loop or eyelet over the pole and ensure the outer tabs/eyelet are positioned between the bracket and the finial. If you wish to achieve a standard fold, hang the curtains with the tabs/eyelets secure together for the first few days with the section between each tab/eyelet folded back.

Pattern matching

Our selection of ready-made curtains are matched specifically to pattern from the bottom. There is not a guarantee that two pairs of curtains will match each.

Your custom made curtains will match from the top and every pair in your order will match each other in sequence.

Tiebacks

Our selection of ready-made curtains are matched specifically to pattern from the bottom. There is not a guarantee that two pairs of curtains will match each.

Valances

Valances are a decorative feature that looks very attractive on curtains. We have valances available on all of our custom made designs and most of our ready-made ones. There are many styles we have in our range, please see below. Valances are usually gathered much more than curtains, We recommend that this is between two and two and a half times normally bigger than the curtain.

Curtain Care

Curtains and Valances

When you receive your curtains or valances, you may notice slight creases or pressure marks. This is nothing to worry about and will fall out once they are hanged in a warm room. Tie the ends on the Pencil Pleat tape before the headings can be gathered.

To clean your curtains, we recommend that you dry clean curtains for maximum cleanliness and to ensure there is minimal shrinkage.

Curtain care on velvet pile can be achieved by careful steaming with a kettle and gently brushing upwards to lift the pile. This should only be completed if you notice dark and light shaded patches on your curtains but these usually come out once they have been hung. Please never iron your velvet curtains as you will cause damage, dry cleaning is the best option to take.

Sheers/Nets

When cleaning sheers/nets hand wash them and then hang when slightly to damp therefore allowing any creases to fallout without having to iron them.
